VICTORIA – The B.C. government has announced the Keating Cross Road Overpass on Highway 17 is complete.
The overpass removes the need for drivers to turn left across highway traffic, reducing the risk of collisions and improving travel times along a key route linking several communities, a release notes.Â
Coined a “flyover, the overpass improves traffic flow on Highway 17 which directly links to ferries and Victoria International Airport.
Project highlights include:
- a dedicated on-ramp and off-ramp to the highway
- it supports future bus rapid transit on Highway 17 through new bus-on-shoulder lanes
- realigned the southbound on-ramp toward Victoria
- supports walking and cycling by widening Keating Cross Road and adding a new sidewalk, excluding the flyover structure
- closes direct highway access at East Saanich Road, Martindale Road and Danica Place
The overpass was a priority identified in the South Island Transportation Strategy.
